Simon Koloadin
Simon’s love for film making started at a very young age. He was always holding a video camera. At family gatherings, on holidays and with friends. He felt the need to capture the world and people around him. Find the right angle. Capture the right moment. Tell a story. This passion never went away.
In 2007, Simon started his career in the film industry by studying at Metro Screen. Although he had a deep interest in both directing and editing, Simon was drawn to the camera throughout his studies. He found himself shooting friends short films, music videos and documentaries.
Over the years Simon has gained experience working on every type of production. From documentaries to television commercials to feature films.
Today, Simon is comfortable shooting projects both large and small in scale. He has a deep passion for naturalistic cinematography, but loves the opportunity to think outside the box and shoot stylised projects.
Simon believes in serving the story and never getting in the way of a great performance or script. He likes his work to be impactful yet invisible. He believes he isn’t there to create pretty images, but to create images that best serve the project.
In 2020, Simon’s first narrative feature film ‘A Lion Returns’ was released in cinemas to rave reviews. Directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker ‘Serhat Caradee’ (Cedar Boys), the film was shot over 10 days on a shoestring budget. The film was nominated for a 2020 AACTA Award for ‘Best Indie Film’. The challenges Simon faced on that shoot are a testament to his skill and patience as a collaborative film maker. Simon is currently in talks for a number of other feature film projects.
Simon is always interested in finding new collaborators to work with.
